I’ve always dreamed of being my own boss. Instead of improving the bottom for some anonymous corporate entity, let me be the one to benefit from all my sweat and hard work. That’s why I’ve been saving every penny that I almost won the last five years – so you can start day my own company. I think I finally have enough capital to make it happen in the near future. Now all I need to do is come up with some ideas of small business and decide what would be best for me.
Actually, I do not even come up with these ideas of small business itself. I’ve been reading through some websites and forums geared toward entrepreneurs, and have lots of suggestions culled these fabulous places. There are hundreds literally of inexpensive ideas about small business out there. What I do is select a particular product or service that would be interested in the supply, do some research to see what a little competition there is in the area, and then get started in setting up shop.
I am particularly interested in the ideas of small businesses that do not require excessive launch costs. I do not want to invest in lots of equipment, office space or expensive warehouse space if I can help. That is why working with domestic animals (such as a dog walker or sitter), kids (like a tutor, a planner birthday party, or piano teacher), or busy families (as a person, a handyman, or a housewife delivery of food) would be perfect. None of these businesses require much in the way of equipment to get started. I just had to print up some cards and flyers, buy a few basic supplies and trying to ensure some regular customers.
If those options do not filter out, there are countless other small business ideas you might try instead. For example, I could get in the game as a real estate agent or home inspector. I know that is not exactly booming market at this point in time, but it’s bound to get sooner or later. It could also try my hand at the office or perhaps even writing a nonfiction book on personal finances, which is my field of expertise. There are just so many good ideas from small businesses to choose from that if one does not work out the way I expected, I can always jump into something else.
From my initial investigation of small business ideas, I think the key is to put in something I am passionate about and that I would love doing every day for five to ten years – or longer. This will increase the likelihood they’ll stick things out and give my all, which in turn will improve my chances of success. I never have to work for anyone again, so you better believe that my new company will give everything I have!
